Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish League, said that the issue of the departure of Argentine Lionel Messi, the French star of Paris Saint-Germain, could have been avoided.
Messi’s free transfer to Paris came after the Barcelona administration reached an agreement to renew the contract with the player, before finally acknowledging the breach of the contract due to financial restrictions.
“I know for sure that Messi’s departure from Barcelona was not for financial reasons and that it could have been avoided,” Tebas said in an interview with the Catalan newspaper “Sport”.
“I have discussed the matter with Juan Laporta in person and on the phone and with his board of directors, they have looked for solutions, if the reason is economic, if for another reason, I can assess that now,” he explained.
“I think that next season, with Barcelona numbers, we will see if Messi really comes back or not, and although I respect the club’s decision, we have to say things as they are.”
He added, “Perhaps Messi’s departure was the most painful for me because I personally consider him the best in history.”
Tebas, president of La Liga, tweeted that the 50-year agreement would not have affected Barcelona’s future.
He wrote: “Hi Juan Laporta, you know that the CVC operation does not mortgage the TV rights of Barcelona for 50 years, what the agreement does is that it has more value for all the clubs and therefore you can mortgage it to your club’s banks and solve the big debts you have, it is the solution to your problems.”
And he continued with another tweet: “You said recently that we are bankrupt, we are now worth 24 billion and 250 million euros, so there is a lot of room for growth, you are concerned about the future of La Liga, which you gave up, you were proven wrong in the end after all this evidence came out to people Looks like the guys will see us, right?”
He continued: “Lionel Messi is a great player and he did a lot, and he did not deserve to leave Barcelona in this way, not only leaving Barcelona but also the Spanish League.”
“We knew it was going to happen one day, we were lucky to have the best players in the world in the best teams in the world. In La Liga, we were able to take advantage of putting ourselves on the front line all over the world,” he added. La Liga president concluded.
