Media reports stated, today, Monday, that Barcelona failed to sign the Uruguayan Darwin Nunez, Benfica striker, in 2020, according to the Spanish “Mundo Deportivo”.

And the newspaper pointed out that before Luis Suarez left Barcelona, ​​Barca officials chose to sign Nunez as one of the future strikers.

She indicated that Nunez was playing with Almeria, but Barcelona got good reports about him since his time at Penarol.

Barcelona contacted the Andalusian club in order to buy part of the player’s card at a reasonable price, and left him in Almeria on loan for another season.

She explained that Almeria wanted to keep 20% of any future transfer of the Uruguayan striker, but Barcelona failed to resolve the deal due to the club’s poor economic situation.

The newspaper reported that the two clubs did not discuss a specific price for the deal, but it was between 15 and 20 million euros.

Mundo Deportivo said that Barcelona was leading the race to sign Nunez until Benfica appeared and settled the deal for 25 million euros.

Sources from Barcelona added that Nunez is still on Barca’s list of interests, although the economic conditions are now more difficult.

And the newspaper revealed that Ramon Blanes, Barcelona’s technical secretary, inquired of Benfica about Nunez’s situation again, but the Portuguese club will now only sell him at a high price.
