After Pedri in the 2020/21 season, Barcelona have discovered another gem this season in the form of Gavi.

The 17-year-old midfielder, a product of the club’s La Masia academy, enjoyed an amazing season at Camp Nou and quickly established himself as a mainstay in midfield for Barcelona’s first team as well as the Spanish national team.

Gavi is held in the highest regard at Barcelona and is expected to be at the heart of the team that Xavi Hernandez is building. However, the Catalans have some concerns about the contract status of the young midfield maestro.

The current deal of the former Real Betis star expires in 2023 and he has a release clause of just 50 million euros. Barcelona have been pushing hard to give him a new contract and increase the amount of the release clause, as the current value leaves them vulnerable to raids from elite clubs across Europe who have shown interest in him.

Talks about a new deal have gone smoothly and everything appears to be going well for an extension that would see his exit clause rise to €500m. However, with the Blaugrana being keen to sign Jaffe as a first-team player, they are waiting to sell some players so that they can find glut on the wage bill.

Yusef Demir’s exit is about to end, but Barcelona will score Ferran Torres in the space left by the Austrian. So, they are waiting for Luke de Jong’s departure to terminate Jaffe’s contract and make him a senior member of the team.

Liverpool is ready to take advantage of it

As was previously reiterated, this situation leaves them vulnerable to potential onslaught from other clubs, who could push the release clause at the La Liga headquarters and put pressure on the midfielder’s feelings.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign the great Jaffe

And according to El Nacional, that’s exactly what Liverpool are planning to do. The Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp, is believed to be a huge fan of Jaffe’s talents and wants to bring him to Anfield.

With the transfer window already open in England, the German tactician has urged the club’s owners to activate Gavi’s €50m release clause to bolster their midfield unit.

Evan de la Pena, Jaffe’s agent, has informed Barcelona that he is receiving a lot of offers from clubs to kidnap the teenager. Therefore, the sooner the Catalan team resolves the situation, the better.
