Ernesto Valverde, the former Barcelona coach, commented on the period he spent in training the Catalan team, which ended with his dismissal for poor results and the appointment of Quique Setien as his successor.
Valverde coached Barca from 2017 to 2002, during which time he succeeded in achieving the Spanish League title twice, the King’s Cup once, and the Spanish Super Cup once.
Valverde made statements published by the Spanish newspaper Marca: “We won two league titles and that was good, but nothing was good enough for some people.”
He added: Winning the league twice was not enough from the point of view of Barcelona officials
The former Catalan coach confirmed that the team under his leadership did not suffer in the group stage of the Champions League, as the team was guaranteeing its passage to the next round before the last game in the round.
And the Spanish coach continued: “I follow everything from afar, as soon as you leave a place, you close the page, and if you leave a club like Barcelona, you need more time to get over it.”
Valverde led Barcelona in 145 matches in all tournaments, winning 97 matches, drawing 32 matches, and losing 16 matches.
