Barcelona president Joan Laporta hopes his French international winger Ousmane Dembele will change his approach and reconsider the offer made to him by the Catalan club.
For his part, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is still hopeful that Ousmane Dembele’s contract with the team can be extended after the end of the current season.
Dembele’s contract with Barcelona is scheduled to expire at the end of the season, and he is entitled to sign with any club for free, starting next season.
On this matter, Laporta Laporta spoke to Radio Cadena Ser, saying: “Dembele knows our offer and knows that we have always wanted it to continue. We hope that he will rethink at the end of the season.”
So far, Dembele, 24, who was threatened with exclusion from the starting line-up of the Blaugrana team, has not reached an agreement with Barcelona regarding the renewal of his current contract, which expires at the end of the current season.
Moreover, Dembele did not succeed in signing a new team in the winter transfer window last month, prompting coach Xavi Hernandez to rely on him.
The club president continued, “I have always said it, for me he is one of the best players in his position and we will see what happens at the end of the season, now we must focus on the current season, we have a lot to say in the European League and the League.”
He continued, “In football, you cannot rule out anything happening. Look at Dembele, he was not playing, and now he is playing well, but the extension of his contract does not depend on me.”
Laporta had previously announced that the club had not reached an agreement with the French player to extend his contract, which made the administration try to search for an offer for Dembele last January to benefit financially from his departure, but the player rejected all the offers he received.
