Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets continues his quest and gets closer to the throne of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos in the Spanish Clasico.
Barca will be a heavy guest against its traditional rivals Real Madrid, in an upcoming meeting next Sunday, in the Meringue stronghold at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the 29th week of La Liga.
The duo Messi and Ramos, former Barcelona and Real Madrid players, who are currently playing in the ranks of Paris Saint-Germain, top the list of the most players participating in the Clasico throughout history.
The Argentine star managed between 2005 and 2021 to appear in 45 matches against Real Madrid, becoming the most participating player in the Clasico.
But Messi is shared by Ramos, the legend of the Madrid defense, who participated between 2004 and 2021, in 45 meetings, so that he and Messi only played the most number of matches in the Clasico.
Busquets is considered the closest player to breaking the Messi and Ramos number, especially since he has been able since 2008 to appear in 42 El Clasico matches with Barcelona.
The player, nicknamed the Earth’s axis, is only 3 games away from the equation of Messi and Ramos’ number, to become the most popular player in the Clasico.
The Spanish midfielder shares with 3 other players, Manuel Sanchez (Real Madrid), Francesco Gento (Real Madrid), and Xavi Hernandez (Barcelona), all of whom appeared in 42 games in El Clasico.
Busquets is not the only source of danger to Messi and Ramos, as Barcelona defender Gerard Pique comes in seventh place, as he appeared in 39 games, and he has only 5 games left to equal the number of Messi and Ramos, then Karim Benzema, the Real Madrid striker, who appeared in 38 games.
