Xavi led Barcelona to a 4-0 victory over Real Madrid, during the match that brought them together, Sunday, at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the 29th round of the Spanish League.
Xavi managed to end the complex that Barcelona suffered from over the past 3 years, by not beating Real Madrid in 6 matches, as he was defeated in 5 and drew in one match.
After the match, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was attacked violently by the team’s fans, who blamed him for the heavy defeat from Barcelona.
The Spanish newspaper “AS” confirmed that the fans chose their candidate to train Real Madrid during the coming period, to succeed the Italian coach, who is in a state of wide anger.
The newspaper pointed out that the Madrid fans nominated Xabi Alonso, the coach of the second Real Sociedad team, to lead the royal team during the coming period.
Xabi Alonso previously played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2014, and won the 2013 Champions League with him, before moving to Bayern Munich, where he retired in 2017.
A year after his retirement, Xabi Alonso trained at Real Madrid’s academy for one year, before moving to coach the second team in Real Sociedad, and succeeded in leading him to qualify for the Spanish second division, but his contract expires at the end of the current season.
Aside from the similarity in names, Xavi’s assumption of Real Madrid’s training will be similar to Xavi’s leadership to coach Barcelona, especially since the latter did not lead a big team in Europe as well.
