Barcelona are said to be looking for Real Sociedad teenage striker John Karikaburu, who has a massive €60m buyout clause in his contract.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is following the progress of 19-year-old Spanish striker John Caricapuro, who plays for Real Sociedad in the Spanish League.

John Karikaburu came through the youth ranks at Real Sociedad and has established himself as a mainstay in the Basque B team over the past 12 months. He enjoyed a fruitful campaign with the reserve team, scoring ten goals in 28 matches and up to his first-team debut with La Real in September last year.

Karikaburu has featured twice for Spain’s Under-21 national team after making his debut last year. The 19-year-old may not have had much football with the first team, but his promise and potential seem to have alerted Barcelona, who are believed to be scouting for the young striker.

Indeed, Barcelona is focusing on strengthening its ranks at the first team level as well as reserves with youngsters with untapped potential. They recently signed Pablo Toure from Racing Santander and are also monitoring the progress of 20-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder Benat Torrentes.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also following the development of Karikaburu, with scout Yun Andoni Goicoechea following young scout for some time now.

Barcelona is in the offensive boosters market, with a new signature striker at the top of their wish list. This has led to links with stars such as Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski. At the same time, they will need to bring in a young striker or two to ensure squad depth as Martin Braithwaite, Ousmane Dembele and Luke de Jong are all expected to leave the club in the summer.

To this end, Karikaburu could be a useful addition who could initially join the Barcelona B team setup before gradually being included in the first team ranks. However, signing the 19-year-old Spaniard will not be easy as Real Sociedad have tied him up with a new contract until 2026, which includes a massive €60m release clause.

Therefore, it remains to be seen if Barcelona decides to act on their interest in John Karikaburu in the summer or continue his exploration until he gets more exposure in top football before trying to sign him.
