Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo expressed his happiness after renewing his contract with Barcelona until June 2026.
Barcelona announced today, Tuesday, the renewal of the contract of Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo, after a series of negotiations that extended over the past months.
Speaking to Catalan media, Araujo said: “I am very happy to be here, to renew my contract with this club, and to continue with it for several years.”
And the team wall continued, “This came as a result of a lot of work. I thank my family, the club, my colleagues and the technical staff who have always helped me.”
After several months of negotiations, Araujo, 23, will remain in the Catalan club, which retains in this way one of the young players who have become a key element in the project led by Xavi Hernandez.
Ronald recalled his beginnings in the Barcelona reserve team, stressing that he saw at the time “everything is very big”, and believed that it would be difficult to join the first team.
And the 23-year-old continued: “Now that I’ve played more than 75 games with the first team, my renewal and my stay here prove that the work is going well and I hope it stays that way for many more years.”
Araujo receives great love from Barca fans, who are often encouraged by the “Uruguay” shout, the nickname fans also call his compatriot Luis Suarez.
“When I went to the Camp Nou for the first time, everyone was shouting the Uruguayan word for Luis (Suarez). I was very touched, thinking that maybe one day they’ll yell at me like that. The fans who supported me from the beginning made me so happy. Feeling this support is great.” .
It is worth noting that Araujo joined Barcelona in August 2018 and signed a 5-year contract, and was promoted to the first team in the 2020-2021 season.
